OCTOBER 18...ZAATARI CAMP...

Zaatari è il principale campo per rifugiati siriani in Girdania. Costruito in una zona desertica ospita piu’ di 30.000 rifugiati. Il campo è gestito dall’UNHCR e dotato di due ospedali dal campo, uno militare del Marocco e un secondo della Francia. C’è una scuola, un asilo. Una struttura spartana ma ben organizzata con edifici blu per le docce e rubinetti dell’acqua corrente nelle piazze del campo. Nuove tende vengono aggiunte giorno dopo giorno, si identificano facilmente a causa del loro colore bianco, le atre sono rosse, colorate dalla sabbia del deserto. Vivere qui è diffcile, soprattutto per i bambini. La polvere e il sole sono i principali nemici. Nel campo sono state organizzate delle cucine, non una mensa comune, ma blocchi di cemento sui quali è possibile cucinare. L’acqua viene portata ogni giorno con le autobotti che riempiono graosse cisterne. I bambini sono tantissimi. Soffrano delle difficili condizioni climatiche. Piccole attività nascono tra le tende del campo. Qualche negozietto e un caffè. Ci si arrangia come si puo’. Le tende non restano anonime, i rifugiati le considerano come le loro case, le decorano e le riempiono di accessori, la maggior parte dei quali oggetti trovati o reciclati. Quello che qui spaventa è l’inverno che si avvicina e ci si chiede come sarà la vita di questa gente in una struttura provvisoria diventata un vllaggio........

Zaatari is a Syrian refugee camp in Girdania. Built in a desert area is home to more than 30,000 refugees. The field is operated by UNHCR and has two hospitals, a military camp of Morocco and a second of France. There is a school, a kindergarten. A spartan but well organized structure with blue buildings host the showers and taps of running water are in the streets of the camp. New tends are added every day, easily identified by their white colour, the other are red, desert sand colored. Life here is difficult, especially for children. The dust and the Sun are the main enemies. In the field some kitchens were organized, not a common conteen, but concrete blocks on which you can cook. The water is carried every day with tanks and fill graosse tanks. Children are many. There are difficult climatic conditions. Small businesses come out between the tents. Some small shop and a cafe. The curtains do not remain anonymous, the refugees regard as their homes, decorate and fill with accessories, with a lot of objects found or recycled. Winter approaching and one wonders how these people in a temporary structure become village.
