Reporters Without Borders: French Photographer Wounded in Syria 'Critical'

French freelance photographer Olivier Voisin, who was seriously wounded in Syria last month, was in critical condition Friday after an operation in Turkey, media watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said.

"Voisin was injured by shrapnel from an exploding shell while covering the operations of a katiba (armed opposition group) near Idlib," in northern Syria at the end of January, RSF said in a statement.

He suffered head and arm injuries, it said.

"He was taken yesterday to the International Hospital in the Turkish border city of Antakya, where he underwent an operation to his arm this afternoon," it said.

"Doctors say he is still unconscious and describe his condition as critical but stable."

The 38-year-old photographer, whose works have been published in major French and British newspapers, had collaborated with Agence France Presse in January by providing about a dozen pictures.
